Ballerine – An intrauterine device perfect for women who have not given birth yet.
Ballerine is an innovative hormone-free intrauterine device, suitable for women who have never given birth, and offers protection of more than 99% for five years.
Are you a woman who’s never given birth and are you looking for a hormone-free intrauterine device?
Meet Ballerine – an innovative hormone-free intrauterine device, shaped like a ball.
The device is inserted into the uterine cavity by a doctor and functions for 5 years. This device is intended for women over the age of 15. The device can be removed at any time, and immediately after removing it, its functions stop. In other words, as soon as the device is removed your fertility will return.
How does a Ballerine work?
Unlike traditional T-devices, the ballerina device is made of thin, flexible material with a foam memory, on which copper spheres are threaded. These globules secrete copper ions, which prevent the sperm from reaching the egg and also prevent the rooting of a fertilized egg.
When the flexible wire is released from the installation tube into the uterus, the device returns to its three-dimensional round shape. The device moves freely inside the uterus, without sharp edges and corners.
Advantages of the Ballerin
The biggest advantage of the Ballerine, just like with any intrauterine device is the fact that from the moment of installation it can be enjoyed for a full 5 years. No more prescription pills, no more remembering to refill your script or get stuck without them. Once a Ballerine has been installed, you can relax and enjoy over 99% protection rates at any given moment!
The three-dimensional shape and flexibility of the Ballerine allow it to position easily within the uterine cavity. Due to its unique shape, it has no sharp edges or corners that can cause irritation or puncture the uterine walls.
This is a very small device, with a diameter of only 15 mm. The installation tube is also extremely narrow, so that the insertion into the uterus is done almost painlessly and without the need for local anesthesia.
Installing a ballerina
The method of installation of the Ballerine is similar to the manner of installation of other copper intrauterine devices. The device is placed into the uterus using a plastic tube, like with the installation of other devices. However, there are a number of advantages due to the mechanical structure of the contraceptive device:
- Easier insertion of the contraceptive device – the smallest diameter of the tube is 3.2 mm. The importance of the diameter is prevalent when inserting the device- it is less painful for the woman, and more convenient for the doctor.
- Reduced risk of perforation of the uterine wall – When the device is released from the installation tube into the uterus, its movement is a posterior movement, meaning that the device does not “get stuck” in the uterine wall but is released directly into the cavity. In this way there is a reduced risk of perforation of the uterine wall.
- At the end of the ball are two wires, which are used to remove the copper device when needed.
- After about two months from the date of installation, the woman will be scheduled for a checkup to make sure that the ballerine is properly adjusted. Then, an annual checkup is required.
Removing Ballerines
The Ballerine is usable for up to 5 years. After 5 years, you must remove the device from the doctor or replace it with a new one.
When should I not use the Ballerine?
- If you are pregnant or if you may be pregnant
- You have an abnormal uterus
- You have a pelvic inflammatory disease
- If you have suffered from uterine inflammation after pregnancy or miscarriage in the last 3 months.
- You have cancer of the cervix or uterus
- You suffer from vaginal bleeding whose origin is unclear
- You have cervicitis
- You have a sensitivity to one of the components of Ballerin (copper, nickel, titanium, polypropylene, or PET)
Disadvantages of Ballerine
First of all, keep in mind that although an intrauterine device is one of the most effective and convenient ways to prevent pregnancy, it does not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases and sexually transmitted infections. In addition, each device requires an adjustment period of between 3 and 6 months, accompanied by bleeding and sometimes mild menstrual cramps. However that improves once the body gets used to the device.
